TBT – Young Jesus

We don’t have many accounts of Jesus when He was young, how He was as a young boy or if HE ever performed miracles when he was young. I recently watched the movie called ‘Young Messiah,’ and what the Holy wood directors are basically trying to say is that, Jesus performed miracles as a child, he raised a child back to life, he brought dead birds to life, he healed the sick among many other miracles. Am just amazed as to where these directors get their script from? My Bible certainly doesn’t state anywhere that Jesus performed miracles as a child, but why would they do this, what would they gain? I personally think they are targeting our young generation to try and make them believe in another version of the story of Jesus, and not the one that we all know. They want people to doubt and they want people to start questioning why there hasn’t been any information on the young life of Jesus. The worst part of it all is that, they have fabricated almost everything! may God help us all.

Back to my TBT, so on the 8th day after He was born, His parents took him to be circumcised as was the custom, and he was named Jesus, the name that the angle had given him before he had been conceived. During those days, there were certain things that had to be followed according to the law of Moses, and when Joseph and Mary’s time for purification had been completed, they took the boy to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord. Luke 2:23 as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord.” And so it was that, Joseph and Mary followed everything that they were supposed to and completed it. And the child grew and become strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him Luke 2:40

Jesus continues to grows up and when he was 12 years old, as was the festival of the passover, his parents went to Jerusalem and they took him with them. After the feast was over, his parents were returning home, but Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it. They thought he was in their company, but he wasn’t and when they had travelled on for a day, they realised that they didn’t have their child. Am thinking such cases might have happened back then because when the passover feast was being celebrated people came from all over Israel into Jerusalem to celebrate, and so Jerusalem must have been jam packed! The difference between now and then, is that even if Jesus was ‘lost’, they mostly knew each other and so someone was bound to take him back to his parents (my thinking). They referred to someone by their fathers name, so in this case, it would have been Jesus son of Joseph. Our current world is full of pedophile’s all over the place, we cannot afford to leave a child behind anywhere! As Joseph and Mary where going back to Jerusalem, they must have been thinking to themselves, “how did we loose our child?,” and they might even have thought that God wasn’t pleased with them, because He had chosen and allowed them to take care of Jesus, and they forgot him! I mean how do you loose the Lord? Finally after 3days they find him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions.

Can you imagine that Jesus who is God, was also seated down listening to the teachers of law and asking them questions? testing them and seeing if they really knew what they taught? At that young age, He was wiser and knew far much more than all the teachers of the law combined! When His parents told him that they had been looking for Him, Jesus said Luke 2:49 “why were you searching for me?” he asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?.” Now Jesus knew His destiny from an early age, He knew His course, He knew whom He had to please and that was His Father in Heaven! It doesn’t mean that we have to wait until we are old so that we can start serving God in our lives. We need to walk with God from an early age, and we need to teach our children about God early enough so that they will not depart from the Word of God. I tell you what, I thank God that my parents instilled in me the things of God, we used to be catholics back then, and one day our nanny took me to her church and I fell in love with it, their singing, it was so charismatic. When I went home, I couldn’t stop talking about how wonderful church was, and so the next Sunday my mum came with us and guess what, she got saved, then dad got saved, and the rest is history as they say!

We need to be people who know where we are going, people who know whom to please and people who know their destiny. Young Jesus is almost ready for the work cut out for Him, God’s perfect plan, continues to reveal itself, the package is being unwrapped for all to see. Today remember that some many years back, Jesus was also a young man like most of us have been, but He stayed on Track! Today, young or old, weak or strong, there is a track that has been set out for us to walk and or run; beloved STAY ON TRACK!!
May we all fulfil our destinies
Blessings!!
