Backsliden, you don’t need to be!

Ever seen someone who preaches to you the gospel of Jesus Christ, you get saved, and start living your life for Christ and then a few years or months later, you hear that the one who prayed for you has backslidden and is now living a life of sin. Why does that happen? I mean, why would anyone want to leave what is right for what is wrong? I personally believe that we each have our own struggles and addictions, and as the Bible says in 2nd Peter 2:19 -For a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him. In certain circumstances you find a christian that is saved, but is secretly struggling with an alcohol or cigarettes addiction problem, they might also be secretly hiding their addictions of ponography or masturbation. People normally hide their addictions and struggles for fear that they will be condemned (this is usually a lie from the devil) because he wants us to have fear and not come out to declare our struggles. He wants to fill us with guilt and shame, to the point that even if you were saved, you start thinking to yourself, “why am I living a double standard life, let me just continue what I used to do, instead of hiding in salvation,” before you know it, your back to your sinful life, doing what you used to do. This is the evil plan of the devil, lying to us that we cannot be saved from our addictions, and therefore so many people who would want to come to salvation, are afraid of taking that step of faith!

The Bible doesn’t mix up its words, what you read is what there is, 2Peter 2:20-22 says If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning. It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them. Of them the proverb are true: “A dog returns to its vomit.” This passage warns us all that if you knew the Lord and backslide, then woe unto you!

A dog will return to its vomit I have seen it, but we don’t need to return to our very own vomit (sinful lives) for God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and of a sound mind 2Timothy 1:7. Remember that fear is the tool of the enemy, he wants you to be afraid that when you get saved, you will go back to sinning, he has filled the minds of most people that they cannot get off their addictions, and so most people, who get saved, end up going back to their vomit, which is their sinful nature. James 4:7 Submit yourselves, then to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Its very simple, you have to simply submit to God, you can’t control your addictions on your own, you can’t! When you submit to God, when you surrender to Him, you give Him power and authority to work in your life. Humble yourselves before the Lord and He will lift you up James 4:10

Dearly beloved, you do not need to struggle with addictions that wear you down or make you backslide, come to Jesus and surrender, let Him know what it is that your struggling with, let it out there all open before Him, He will do it for you and you will live a life free from guilt and shame. Don’t let fear consume you, you are a child of the King, act like it!
Blessings!!
