HolySpirit

Why is He called the Holy Spirit? Who is He anyway? What exactly does He do? From where did He come from? There are many mysteries in this world and to some people the HolySpirit is still a mystery. He’s feared by some, while for others its a case of, ‘they just don’t want to get into details of knowing Him, after all they’ve seen people fall down and speak in languages that they cannot understand, and so they are afraid of the whole scenario. Am not any exception, I feared revival meetings or anything that was associated with the HolySpirit.

Back in the days when I was young, together with my friends, well ad say we were ‘cool saved kids,’ who used to go for youth service.  I remember so vividly there was a young pastor who used to preach on the Holy Spirit and whenever he prayed, there was this indescribable presence of God, its totally unexplainable, and because me and my friends were young and pretty much didn’t understand what was happening, whenever this preacher would be preaching, we would sit at the back with the assumption that “this” particular presence wouldn’t come to us at the back, we were somehow ‘unseen’, which  is pretty lame, now when I look back, but at that particular moment, it was the coolest thing we ever did – “hiding from the HolySpirit.”

We didn’t want to fall down and start speaking in languages we didn’t understand, actually, I remember we used to “think” that the people who actually had this encounter were ‘faking it.’ Oh God, what were we thinking? we were young and pretty much stupid if you ask me!

I guess its this same ‘assumption’ that most people have and its generally because we do not understand who the Holy Spirt is, or His Persona! Fast forward, we go for a youth camp, and here we were taught on who the Holy Spirit is, I understood and so did my friends and when the alter call was made for anyone who wanted to receive the Holy Spirit, guess who was first in line? yours truly and from that day, my life has being life changing. One day we went for a high school mission, whereby we preach to students in High school and teach them about Jesus. Everything was going on well, until the alter call to receive the Holy Spirit was made, so many young girls went to the front, it was amazing to see how these young ladies had a thirst for God. As the preacher was praying, one girl fell down and started moving like a snake. You can imagine the shock I was in, I had never seen a demon manifest itself, this was a first, nonetheless, there was no time to let fear set in, for our God is greater, stronger and even the demons bow down at the mention of His name. We took this young lady to a different room and prayed for her, all Glory to God the demon left her.

This was the work of the HolySpirit, He revealed the evil spirit inside this young lady, it wasn’t our works! Where the Spirit of God is, evil cannot stand! That is why we need Him, to reveal to us the things of God, to Help us discern if a spirit is from God or not.

Why then did He come? Before Jesus left this earth, He said in John 14:16-18 “And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever – the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you know Him, for He lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Jesus knew that for us to get through this life, we needed a helper, someone to guide us and that is why the Holy Spirit came. The HolySpirit is the Spirit of God Himself! imagine that the Spirit of the one and only God  is living in you, walking with you, guiding you, teaching you, how awesome is that?

The HolySpirit is for all of us not just for the chosen few, He doesn’t choose who to be with and who not to be with! He doesn’t operate like that, we only have to invite Him in. You see our God never imposes anything on us, He never forces Himself on us, no! He wants us to make the decision to accept Him as our Lord and Savior and start living a different life that is honoring Him.

What are the requirements for receiving the HolySpirit? You don’t need to have a degree, you don’t need to be sophisticated, rich or the MD of a top company. He come’s into anyone’s life, even In your simple self, the first step is to give your life to Jesus and surrender to only Him. Once we are saved, then the Spirit of the Lord can come in and live in us. Can you pray for yourself to receive the HolySpirit, yes you can, and as you pray, you have to have faith and believe, for without faith, it is impossible to please God. He gives us Wisdom, Knowledge, Helps us to prophesy, to speak in Heavenly tongues in a language that we don’t even understand, but God does. To have faith beyond our wildest imagination, and understanding as we read His Word.

The HolySpirit descended on Jesus when He was being baptized like a dove. The dove is an emblem of purity and harmlessness and this is the message that we should receive; The HolySpirit is not here to harm us, He’s not here to cause fear in our hearts, but rather He is here to walk with us, teaching us the things of God and helping us in our daily lives. Today, make the choice to get to know Him, who He is and what He can do in your life by transforming you daily, only if you let Him.

Dear Lord Jesus, I desire to have your HolySpirit come into my life. Sweet Spirit of God, come into my life, fill me with your power. Speak to me and help me in my daily walk with Christ. In Jesus name I pray Amen.

Blessings!!
