Milestones in Life!

What are the milestones in life? What are the ‘supposedly goals that we must achieve in our lifetime?’ From the time we are born, until we reach one year, there are some milestones that a baby’s supposed to have reached, these are a baby’s hearing, their eyesight, the time they sit down, their first smile, crawling, standing for the first time and many other milestones. On the other hand, various articles have been written and published by experts, who have stated the time that we ought to have done certain things in life like, graduating from college or university, moving out from your parents house, finding your very first job, getting married, having your first baby e.t.c.

The truth is this, we are all different from an early age, some children develop very fast in life, while others develop very slowly, but each and everyone of us is unique in their own ways. A child who developed very fast while they were young, might not attain their goals as fast as they would like to achieve and might even struggle in their young adult life, while a child who was very slow in developing, might not struggle in their adult life and reach their goals and achievements really fast. This shows our diversity in life, and it also shows that we all cannot attain every milestone, all at the same time.

One thing is however present and has always been there with us through every milestones we have made and achieved, and that is the presence of God. He has been with us from conception, seen us being developed in our mothers womb, to the time that we are delivered into the world. He was there when we cried for the very first time, He was there when we first sat down, or stood up. He was there when we first went to pre-school, when we finished high school, when you went to college, when you got your first job, when you got heart broken by your boyfriend or girlfriend. He has seen all your tears and all your smiles, He knows the desires of your heart. He was there when you got married and had your first baby, He was there when you lost your dad, and your best friend to cancer. Our God has always been there for us and with us, He is the one person who has seen our every milestone in life, isn’t that awesome? Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart. This same God, also knows the number of hairs on your head, as stated in Luke 12:7 Indeed the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth /more than many sparrows.

Sometimes we beat ourselves up for not attaining what we wanted so much, looking at our friends and thinking, “all my friends have gotten promoted, are driving good cars, while I on the other hand am still on the same spot, its like am not growing or worse still, I seem to be moving backwards.” Others who have a good job will be asking themselves why they still haven’t gotten a baby after being married for over ten years, and someone who just gotten married has become pregnant, and still a young teenager somewhere has gotten pregnant and terminated the pregnancy, such is life! Yes sometimes we do ask ourselves all these questions, which make us worry, because we are still human. The comfort that we draw from God as stated in His word is found in Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.

God has good plans for all of us, and His timing is always the perfect time, therefore let us not be discouraged when what we want has taken a little bit longer than we expected. The time we wait, we are learning something new, we learn to be patient, we grow spiritually, emotionally and mentally. Our thinking capacity becomes better, we become good judge of character, we learn who our friends are and who aren’t.  Therefore in every milestone that life brings you, know that God is always there with you, and He has good plans for all of us. Whether you get married at 40, while another has their first baby at 35, isn’t our God the same for all? “God is not a man that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should change His mind Numbers 23:19, therefore that which He has set aside and apart for you will come at His appointed time. He doesn’t lie about His promises for you, doesn’t change His mind over His word over your life, He is a Faithful God.
