Yesterday I was driving and it was raining, the wipers swishing and swishing as fast as possible, as the rain is pouring down like nobody’s business. The drainage is blocked, the water overflows onto the road, the people can’t cross over, as there is absolutely no where to step on. Every where you look there is water, water, and more water. Traffic has come to a halt, as the cars are moving at a snail pace for fear of being washed away, and vision is not very clear. Some roads are a no go zone! cars cannot simply pass.
I thank God I drove safely home, but just when I was nearing my court, what do I find, rain water flooded everywhere, such that you cannot tell where the drainage is from the road. I see a car that has parked on the side, waiting for the water to subside. I stop for a few minutes and think to my self, I can cross this, and so I start accelerating slowly. I can feel the water pressure, pushing the car, but am far in too deep to stop. If I stop, the car will stall and so I continue accelerating, then, I hear a sound, like a clicking sound, then the dash board lits up, all red! Am like today is the day, what did I get myself into? It’s the battery sign, I think the car will come to a complete stop, but it doesn’t. I continue accelerating until I come to the corner and take a left turn, no more water phew! am home, I park the car and let it run for a while, waiting for the red light to turn off, but it doesn’t and so I call a good friend on phone and explain what happened and he goes like, ‘maybe it’s the fan belt that has cut,’ open the bonnet and check. I check and the fan belt is intact, I check the battery to see if any water got in, nothing! I call my brother in law who happens to be my neighbor and he checks every thing out and gives me a thumbs up that the car is okay, just maybe water that might have gotten into the alternator, so we let the engine run for a while before we turn it off.
The battery sign that lit up!
I must say I learnt a few things today. If people would stop throwing away plastic bottles, paper bags and all sorts of waste into the streets, we wouldn’t have these kind of problems. What we are experiencing now, is as a result of our own doing, carelessness, that someone else will clean up after us, and so we litter everywhere. This is totally unacceptable, if we don’t take care of what we have, who will? The same with our bodies, everyday people are indulging in drugs and substance abuse, not realising what it is doing to their bodies. Clogging up their systems, which will one day fail to flow the way its supposed to and simply shut down! If the drainage and trenches were regularly cleaned, then rain water would have flowed easily, and there wouldn’t have been any flooding. Watch out for what you feed your heart, body and soul! feed it with the word of God so that you may grow healthy and strong.
I on the other hand saw danger, and instead of waiting for it to clear, I plunged right into it. Our lives are the same! We aren’t perfect, we keep sinning, even if it’s the simplest of sin, it’s still a sin and if we do not repent, our sins will keep piling and piling until they overflow and cause blockage in our lives. Our sins will cause the Holy Spirit of God not to flow the way He is supposed to, because our sins are blocking the ways, and when sin takes over, we draw further and further away from God, indulging ourselves with the things of the world, thinking to ourselves, ‘it can’t be all that bad.’ Well unfortunately it is!
When you continue to sin, you reach a point and think to yourself, am already in too deep, I can’t go back and so you keep pressing on into the world. Your battery, which in this case, is your heart will warn you, it will raise a red flag, and when it does we should learn to listen to it, and stop whatever we were doing. If we don’t, not only will we damage our cars (bodies) but you might not have time to check what could be the problem, and you find the Son of Man has already come, He has taken His faithfuls together with Him, and because your name is not written in the Lamb’s Book of life, you are thrown into the lake of everlasting fire. So while you are at it, when your heart raises a red flag, listen to it!
Hebrews 3:12-14 See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first.
Blessings!
