Too Busy

Have you ever being too busy for God? Is there such a thing really like being too busy for God? What has God called us to do? what does He want from us?

The life that we live is God’s gift to us, however what we do with our lives is our gift back to God. For me, there was a time this statement was confusing, and how I understood it was, I need to do more of ‘church work,’ (don’t get me wrong volunteering in Church is crucial) however, I knew that there was nothing more to that. For me, spending time in Church was more important to an extent when I was younger, my mother used to call me a church mouse! She said I spent my time in church more than I did anywhere else. I didn’t understand my mother, I honestly thought she had lost it, (hope she won’t get to read this) where else did she want her teenage daughter to spend her time? clubbing? And so I used to justify myself every now and then and truth is, we always used to quarrel with mummy dearest. One day she denied me permission to go to a teens camp, how now? I was devastated. Back then when I was growing up, there was never a time the young people could question their parents on anything, and so I was scared stiff to ask her why she had declined. However, I gathered courage, (of which I knew, that even if I got an answer, I would still get a beating for questioning my mum) and I asked why she declined and this is what she said, “You spend too much time in Church that you even forgot your family, you spend too much time in Church you don’t do your chores, you need to create a balance.” And at that very moment I realized that I had being disobeying my parents, refusing to do my chores, and all I wanted was to stay in Church.

Ideally, the truth is, we need to have a balance on everything we do. If we focus on work and neglect family, there will be consequences, your family will drift apart. If you do community service, visit the sick in hospitals, give to the poor, and you rarely have time to even pray, then you’ve become too busy for God. However, unfortunately, some of us are still stuck on to the place I used to be when I was young, justifying ourselves that for you spending time in community service is more important. It is, but to the point that your children don’t see you? to the point that you don’t spend time with your husband or wife? Unfortunately, we keep missing the mark! we forget the one who called us wants time with us, but we are too busy, and so He keeps taking a back seat! God is a gentleman, He doesn’t impose anything on us, and so when we don’t pray, read the Bible, He’s still there waiting on us patiently to do so. He won’t rise against us, He doesn’t cut the air that we breathe! He doesn’t scold us, He waits patiently for us to see that, yes the things He’s called us to do, are important, but not so as spending time with the source of these things, which is God Himself.

Lately, I have being too busy for God, not using the talents and gifts that He’s given me. Thank God for the Holy Spirit who keeps on convicting us and alerting us that “Hey, your not doing it rightly! stop! change your battery, recharge your energy, which can only be found in the Word of God. So what does God want from us? We were created in the image of God, in His very own likeness. We were made by Him and for Him. We were created to worship Him. Luke 19:37-40 speaks of how a multitude of disciples were rejoicing and praising God, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!’ Peace in Heaven and Glory in the Highest!” and the Pharisees asked Jesus to rebuke His disciples, but Jesus answered and said, “I tell you that if these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out.” All throughout the Bible we see verses upon verses that speak of praise and worship to God Most High.

All of creation is full of His Glory. There is no day that has gone by, that the sun hasn’t risen as it should! No day has passed without the moon and the stars shining their light on the earth. Seasons, come and go all by His spoken Word. The oceans and seas, receive command not to go any further than they have! Everyday that we live, we get to see the Glory of our Lord, and this should serve as a wake up call for all of us to give thanks to God for the gift He gives us every single day. None of us ever knows, if we will wake up in the morning, but truth is, for you to wake up every morning, is a sign from God telling us, that there is still a lot to do out there and God has given each and everyone of us a gift according to the grace that is given to us. Prophecy, ministry, teaching, exhortation, giving, showing mercy. The problem we have is, sometimes, we think that ‘our gift’ is smaller than what the other person has, forgetting what Paul wrote in Romans 12:4-6 ‘For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us. Can the hand function on its own? Can the legs say that they don’t need the rest of the body? The heart pumps blood to lungs, to enable the lungs refresh the blood with a fresh supply of oxygen, however, if our bodies didn’t have the lungs, would the heart function as it does? I don’t think so! We need each and every gift in the body of Christ is equally important.

Today take time and just spend it in the presence of the Lord. We always have requests to God, asking Him to do this and this, we always have a list of what we want. Lets do it differently and go before God and ask Him what He wants with us. God placed within each one of us a potential to become great, but unfortunately many us don’t reach there, because we end up doing things the way we want, instead of how God wants. We forget to go back to our source of power! our source of everything.

I finish by this, David was a great warrior, a great King, however, in all of the Bible, no one has being mentioned like David, “A man after God’s own heart.” May we be men and women who are after God’s heart. To know what pleases Him and what doesn’t. To know when to show mercy and have a hunger and thirst for righteousness. To be peacemakers in a world whose people are ever fighting!

Blessings!!
