Relationship

Perfect relationship? am all in, after all  who doesn’t want a partner that will love them till the very end? We are emotional creatures who always want to be loved and feel love surrounding us, no single person in this world can stand up and say that they don’t want any kind of love whatsoever. So what is a relationship? I actually googled the meaning of a relationship just to get the ‘official meaning,’ maybe I could have being wrong in my own thinking. There are different types of relationships, but the english dictionary puts the meaning as “the way in which two or more concepts, objects or people are connected. Connection by blood, marriage, family ties, and how 2 or more organizations regards towards each other.

We relate with each other every other day on a daily basis and so we make connections and its this connections that form a lasting or short relationship. What makes a good relationship tick? how do people who connect make it last? There are many factors that hold up a relationship, but one of the main factors is trust. Trust is confidence, belief, faith, certainty that you have in someone. You believe that no matter what may come along the way, this person will hold you and be with you until the very end, sometimes it works, while sometimes it doesn’t. When the trust is there, then automatically the relationship continues to grow stronger and the people in it feel safe and secure, while on the contrast, where there is no trust, it will just be a matter of time before the people involved in the relationship will start noticing that they are growing apart, and we know where there is no trust, communication also fades away slowly by slowly!

Our Father in Heaven is calling on us to have a relationship with Him, and not just any other kind of relationship, but a deep and intimate kind of relationship. When things go wrong, who do you run to? who is your number one go to person? is it God or is it your best friend or your partner? Yes we should have people that we share our hurts and pains with, because such people help in comforting us, reassuring that all will be well. I think we look at God as a person who is so far away and who wouldn’t understand our circumstances or situations, but we are so wrong. We’ve trusted so many people along the way who have ended hurting us, we’ve done  business with people we didn’t know all in the name of trust, we’ve seen married folks get hurt by their partners, yet they stayed put! Why then don’t we want to have a relationship with God? You see getting saved is one thing, and having a relationship with God is another. We all know that for a relationship to grow, both parties have to invest on each other! God has already done His part, how you might ask? by giving He’s one and only Son to die on the cross for us. If God didn’t want a relationship with us in the first place, he wouldn’t have created us, He wouldn’t have sent Jesus to die so that we may have eternal life in Him. Why then does it seem to be so hard to have this relationship with God? because of sin!

We all know there are party poppers, intruders, who just like to spoil a good friendship, a good marriage, well the devil is also an intruder who never wants us to have a relationship with God. What does he do? He makes us comfortable in our sins, and even when we get saved, you realize that you still don’t have time to read the word or pray, your too busy at work, your too busy with your kids and family! your too busy planning for Christmas holidays and so many other things that you hardly have time for God. We need to create time, we have to create time and get to know who this God is. After all, we create time for our worldly relationships, why then can’t we create time for God?

“Ever since I got saved, all I have had is misfits after misfits, where is this God?” Haven’t we all heard this statement? Sometimes people get into Christianity and they expect that from now henceforth, everything that was bad will turn into good (overnight) and life will never have struggles again! wrong! The reason why we struggle in life is because our enemy number one the devil saw how beautiful God had created everything to be and he made the first man and woman go against the word of God and so sin came in. Because of sin, hardships and trials also came in, and we all know that choices have consequences!

Romans 10:17 “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing the word of God.” The same way that children grow when they are fed, is the same way that we grow when we read and hear the Word of God. Spiritual maturity will depend if we actually feed ourselves with Gods Word or we starve ourselves! Joshua puts it very well in Joshua 1:8 “Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”

God chose us even before we chose Him, thats how much He loves us. “What is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet.” Psalms 8:4-6 God is concerned about you, and He wants you to know Him for Eternal life is found only in Jesus Christ!

As we put efforts in all our relationships to make them work and make them better, may we not forget the NO.1 relationship and that is our relationship with God. He should be on top of the list, and we need to create time to read His Word, listen to preachings, pray and not just the morning prayer of ‘thank you Lord for letting me see another day’ but spend time in prayer and being in His presence. That way, we will grow, we will get to know Him, whom to know is life eternal, our faith will grow, and we will be deeply rooted in God’s word! not to be carried away by the pleasures of this world which last but for a short while!!

I want to know you more Lord, all day everyday! For your Word is a Lamp unto my feet, a light on my path!
Blessings!!
