What is my worth? Am I worth anything? Do I amount to anything? Do I add any value whatsoever? These are questions that we have all asked ourselves at one point or another in our lives. How do you measure your value? Is there a method to do this? Wait a minute, who set the standards anyway? What gauge do they use?
I can only think of two weighing scales. One is how the world looks at you and measures you, while two it is how God looks at you.
The pressure is real! every single day the pressure is so real! Parents wanting their children to measure up to them, husbands wanting their wives to be some sort of goddess from I don’t know what planet! while on the flip side of it, wives wanting a husband that can only be found in movies! We have set the bar way to high that sometimes we can’t even reach it. You read a job advert in the newspaper and they want a university graduate who is 25 years old and has over 10 years experience in the field, like seriously? do they even read what they are asking for? who does their adverts anyway? don’t they know what age people finish school or university? Its like young people are on a road to no where, all because there are targets set out there and we can’t seem to accomplish them.
Our world has already set out its standards. You should be this tall to work as a cabin crew, you should have this much education to be a manager, you should be this, you should be that and many times we get lost in this world because we don’t even know who we are. We all have a right to education, some have being fortunate enough to even go higher and get degree’s and PHD’s, all that pertains to education. On the contrast is another person who isn’t as fortunate enough to get to where they want to in terms of education, does that mean that this person will never attain their dreams and full potential? Nonetheless, some people have degree’s and still don’t value themselves, they have a low self esteem, so whats the catch? What makes us value ourselves? is it by what we attain in life? or is it by knowing who we really are? None of us had a choice of where we would be born, or which family we would get born into, that, only God can decide for us.
Will riches make me add value to another life? will riches make me value myself?
“Until you are happy with who you are, you will never be happy with what you have.” –Zig Ziglar.
Real value isn’t on material things, real value is when you know who you are. So who are you? do you know? do you know your full potential?
God created us in His own image, in His own likeness and we are His special creation. That is why I like to look at life through how God looks at us. How does He look at us you might ask? with love, compassion, gentleness, the list is endless. Does this mean that we won’t face trials? no it doesn’t! what it does is this, allowing us to know that even in the trials, He is there. He never left our sight, He’s never let go of our hand. In a world that keeps asking for what we can offer, God shows us that all we need to do is live our lives through Him. God shows us that we don’t need to measure our happiness in the eyes of others, but in His. God created all of us with a purpose, we all have a purpose, unfortunately the devil doesn’t want us to reach our full potential. He wants us to wallow in our disappointments, loosing our joy and loosing our focus on what is important.
What is our purpose then? why did God create us in the first place? He clearly gave us instructions to be fruitful and multiply the earth which we have done diligently, every single day a child is being born. However what else are we supposed to do? just work hard and toil? We need to learn from the greatest teacher that ever lived and His name is Jesus Christ. He walked this earth and His message was a message of peace, love and service to others. He washed His disciples feet, He performed many miracles and His teachings to this day keep changing lives. What of us? How do we impact another persons life? how do we serve in the world that is so demanding? how do we serve when everyone else looks at us and thinks we ain’t cool!
A warm smile can turn even the hardest of hearts, a good deed will never go unnoticed. Hence, even in a world whereby doing good seems odd, do good anyway! Remember what Romans 5:8 says But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Imagine a God who died for us even when we didn’t know Him or have any clue of who He was. This is what He is calling us to do, to serve, to be our brothers and sisters keeper, to visit the sick, to pray for one another. When we do this, we realize that life is more fun and more fulfilling when we serve others and when someone else finds happiness, then it trickles down to us.
“Life is a mixture of sunshine and rain, teardrops and laughter, pleasure and pain. Just remember, there was never a cloud that the sun couldn’t shine through.” author unknown.
“In seeking happiness for others, you find it for yourself.” author unknown.
You are precious in the eyes of God! you are loved and valued! don’t let what the world says about you be what you will use to measure your true value! You have gold inside of you! find it and use it to serve and make the world a better place than you found it!!
Perfectly said. We tend to undervalue ourselves, or even get so pressured by what is presumably the way we have to be, the status quo. I have to be size 8, i have to be better than another, so we never look at the gold inside us.. We need to love ourselves and value ourselves as God does.i pray that I see myself in the same way that God sees me… Mad love.
