Happiness

When I grow up and be independent, then I will be happy, these are the words that many young people say, thinking that happiness is derived from being independent. What is Happiness? what brings about happiness? Is it money? a good home? a good marriage? children? a well paying job? a good education? The drive that we get when we want something, pushes us to think that once we achieve that which we so desire, then we will be happy. The happiness might last for a while or sometime, before we realise that we need something else. Once you get a job, you want a car, once you get a car, you want a house, once you get a house, you want a family, then children and so on and so forth. Happiness is not something that you can hold with your hands, happiness is a feeling and it usually comes when you feel satisfied with someone or something. You cannot touch it, you cannot draw it down, but you feel it, happiness brings about peace and a sense of being complete.

Does having all the money in the world bring about happiness? Haven’t we all seen people who are loaded but still aren’t happy? Haven’t we seen successful people, but still their marriages haven’t worked, they had a dream wedding, which only lasted less than a year. While on the flip side of the coin, haven’t we seen people who live from hand to mouth, but who are happy. Yes they may not have, they might not know where their next meal will come from, or when will the children go to school, but they are far much better and get enough sleep than he who lives in a mansion.

I say true Happiness comes from knowing Jesus Christ, as your Lord and Saviour “Happy are the people whose God is the Lord” Psalm 144:15. True happiness is knowing that the King of the world knows you, died for you and will come back for you. True happiness comes from serving God, doing His will, doing His purpose, such that, even when life gives you lemons, you still stand tall knowing that ‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.’ Humans are competitive people in nature, and we all like to be associated with the winning team, no one likes to be on the loosing end and every time we loose, we always want to try again so that we  could win. Well, I want to tell you that the real winning team is #TEAMJESUS, that’s where the real trophy is, that is where we will receive the crown of life from our Father and hear Him say,‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’

Happiness will not come from you being promiscuous, nor will it come from partying every single day, true happiness comes from knowing and serving Jesus Christ. Yes people will try and put you down, if you let them run your life, you will be miserable, but if you put your focus on the prize of life who happens to be Jesus, then no matter what comes your way, you shall be victorious and Happy! 

THE FOUNDATION FOR HAPPINESS IS JESUS CHRIST!
