I started typing this post some two weeks ago, but somehow I kept finding something else to do, either it was school work or devotion with the boys, or cooking and trying to find a new recipe to gather my ‘new skills.’ It’s crazy how I have created time for everything else except writing and so today I committed myself to finish this post because if I didn’t create anytime, then it wouldn’t get done right?
Having the kids at home, being both a parent and a teacher has made me create a fancy timetable that is only followed one or two days and immediately after, were back to our old routines and just do what we can with the time we have! But it’s being an amazing experience and I thank God for the opportunity to pour into my children.
Anyways, enough about my planning strategies that keep failing me everyday. I don’t know about you, but I have become so paranoid about going outside, the thought itself makes me cringe, but at the end of the day I still have to face my fears and do what’s necessary. The time came when I had to go to the store and replenish food items and as usual, I woke up earlier so that I would get to the store before the rest of the people (deep breadth) but this is what this unseen disease, unseen enemy has made us to become. Yes I am still saved, and I believe in Jesus, but I cannot refute the psychological trauma that is happening all around us and to be quiet honest, some people just can’t cope with it!
So here I was, all dressed up like a ninja warrior with practically almost my whole face covered up and I was out of the house. However, outside our homes, gives a different scene, It’s a depressing apocalyptic scene that has made everyone to wear a mask. I feel like am watching the Bird box movie and the only difference is we’re covering our mouths and face, while in Bird box, they had to cover their eyes to avoid seeing this unseen monster which made people bleed internally and act all crazy. However, the script is still the same, there’s a degree of covering that is taking place and we’re actually acting out the movie of our lives, telling our stories one day at a time.
If I were to give more examples of movies that showed our current world situation, my best pick would be World War Z and Contagion, but with Contagion taking the number one trophy. Contagion even showed us how the disease started in china with just one person, and to think that this has became a reality, raises more questions than answers. In both movies we see a world in chaos, panic and confusion looking for answers and a vaccine, exactly what is happening now! Back to my post.
Back in the day we used to say “normal is boring” and everyone wanted to do crazy things that weren’t normal! Never in our wildest dreams did we ever thought that our words would actually come to haunt us because we all want things to go back to normal! Crazy right? So the world’s new normal is wearing masks and following the laid out instructions given by our governments and World Health Organization (WHO). I don’t know about you but at times it feels like we were being pre-programmed from a very long time but we had absolutely no idea or we didn’t connect the dots until everything happened, or were like puppets and we’re being controlled by the puppeteers who run the world. With all that is happening, personally I feel like the dumb character we see in movies whom you try to give them instructions of “don’t do that, “there’s someone behind you,” yet that character cannot hear us, they just have to follow a script. That’s just my crazy feelings.
Well the Bible says in Hosea 4:6 “My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge” (NIV) some version say perish. Even our very own legal principles tell us that “Ignorance has no defence.” Meaning a person who is unaware of law may not escape liability for violating that law merely because one was unaware of its content.
Our other new normal is a cashless world. Everyday we hear how governments all over the world are urging their people to do online transactions to avoid the risk of infections. However, cashless system and technology have being there for some time now and at the click of a button in the comfort of your home, you get to buy practically anything from any store that has an online market. At the click of a button, you can pay bills, send money to your loved ones and even have a doctors consultation appointment, everything is digital and easy, or is it really?
With so much happening around, one of the questions that I have really being asking is, Who am I following? Who is the world following? Are we following God? Or are we following man? Are we following celebrities who are giving us good content or are we following celebrities that are honestly giving us trash and were just accepting it simply because they are celebrities!
A quick look at the Instagram accounts of these “important” people of the world and you’d be shocked to see the number of followers that these people have. Not mentioning names but some of them have over 100M subscribers, its crazy! These celebrities post pictures of the food on their plate and within a matter of seconds, they have over a million likes and comments. Am not hating by the way, this is their life, question am asking is, what is the content that we are feeding our minds with? With this question am reminded of the GIGO principle which states, Garbage In, Garbage Out! You see our minds are powerful storage machines just like computers, that store every kind of information consciously and unconsciously; and whatever we watch, read, listen to will inevitably be displayed by our actions.
Jesus told us in Matthew 7:16-20 “By their fruits you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.
Therefore, why should we follow people who have outwardly declared they don’t believe there is a God? Why should we follow people who have outwardly declared they believe in science or who declare that satan is their god? Are we doing certain things just because our friends are doing it? Let’s go back in time for a while, when Moses was given the 10 commandments by God, the first and second commandments state that:-
- “I am the Lord your God, you shall have no other gods before me.”
- You shall not make for yourself an image
The Israelites defied God in many ways by making idols for themselves. However, in our current times, we have made for ourselves idols in form of celebrities, mobile phones, Internet and so forth! We have made these idols to follow what they say and do as gospel truth and we have forgotten that we should be following God and not man.
Some of the questions we need to ask ourselves are: –
What value do I get from following the people I follow?
Did I learn something new or something that will better me by following them?
What impact do these people have in my life?
Can I go for a day without checking out their profiles just to check what they are doing or saying?
If you find yourself answering these questions and realizing that there is no value that you get from following them, then it’s time to change the narrative and start looking for people who will influence our lives positively and not negative. However, when all is said and done, there’s just two choices we need to make, Follow God or follow the devil! I don’t know about you, but I choose to follow God and follow His ways and His purpose for my life. How I pray that for the rest of us, we will make the same decision to follow Christ.
If you would like to give your life to Jesus, just read these words and believe in your heart and you will be saved.
Dear Lord Jesus, I come to you and confess that I am a sinner. Forgive my sins and cleanse me with your precious blood. Write my name in the Lambs Book of Life and remove it from the book of death. From today I belong to you, and I will live my life for you. In Jesus name I pray believing and trusting. Amen.
