New Beginnings…

The smell of a brand new cardigan, jeans or even a new sofa. There is a feeling that i can’t seem to describe that comes with brand new stuff, and truth be told, we all like things when they are brand new, they are cozy, never being washed, and your the first to wear and or use it, this feeling excites us and dopamine levels rise.

When were born into this world, its a celebration of life and our parents feed us and nurture us until we are old enough to fend for ourselves. Thats when the reality of life steps in and we realize that there are good days and bad days. Days when you keep on applying for jobs but none comes in, days when you start up a business either it flourishes for sometime, and collapses right on your face and your left wondering where do you start? Worse still if your business is faced with challenges such as stealing from employees who keep taking you back and eventually your left with the only logical thing to do and that is to close up shop! Everything is not so new anymore, it feels like your wearing tattered old clothes, and your left walking around like a failure.

Personally I feel like our families are the first people that should understand us whenever we go through down falls, but guess what, this doesn’t happen all the time, leaving the person concerned wondering whom they can talk to, leading to random phases of depression. Truth be told, our day to day life experiences makes us old and tattered, both physically and spiritually from all the experiences that we go through, and we imagine that when people look at us, they see an old book that has being used over and over again. A book that is full of dirt, coiled up corners, missing pages, a book that has being written with so many different colours of pens, a book that is full and needs a replacement. I don’t about you, but I have passed this phrase in my life not once or even twice, but through the experience, through the depressive moments, I draw my strength from the one person who also passed through a season of crushing and conquered it all, not just for me but for the millions of people who have walked and keep walking this earth. His name is Jesus.

2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! When we get saved, we don’t realise what this statement really means, and therefore, we keep carrying all our baggage and past mistakes into our new lives. What this does is only drain us, why? because we haven’t fully downloaded everything at the feet of Jesus. What God tells us is that when we come to Him, its like He has given us a whole new book! brand new, never being used by anyone else, you are the first author to open it and write on it. unfortunately for most of us, we allow other people to dictate what we should write on our very own books, we allow their negativity and their poisonous words to have power over us, forgetting that our books are getting filled up, not by ourselves, but buy the people surrounding us.

Does that mean that people who are saved do not go through trials and tribulations? certainly not! We all go through tough times but its the choices that we make during these times that make us be better people than how we were at first. Its the lessons we learn through this winter season that holds us during the summer time and keeps us strong even when we go through winter again. Jesus never said it would be easy, but He did say, “Take my my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:29

Today, lay it all at His feet. The pain, the questions, the doubt, the shame, the anxiety and just be vulnerable before Him. David tells us in Psalms 51:17, “My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.” Many a times, my self included we’ve asked questions like “God where are you? Why are you silent on my case? what do I do? Lord give me direction, Lord give me a sign.” We assumed He numbed us, ignored our case, but just as Elijah kept sending his servant to go out and look toward the sea, and his servant came back six (6) times saying “I didn’t see anything,” but on the seventh (7) time, he came back with a different answer and said, “I saw a little cloud about the size of a man’s hand rising from the sea.” (1Kings 18:43-44) Don’t give up on God, for He has not forgotten you, no He hasn’t and He loves you. I know to some people these words may not to make any sense, but they are true. He will move in your life, His timing is not like ours, He’s a God of seasons, and maybe its just winter to you now, but summer is coming. Numbers 23:19 puts this very clearly, “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, changing his mind: Does he speak and not do what he says? Does he promise and not come through?

Therefore, no matter what situation you’ve gone through, no matter what bad decisions you’ve made, we serve a Gracious and Loving Father who loves us unconditionally, that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. He’s giving you a clean book and wants you to write on it your life, so be the very best version of you, because there isn’t another you.

Jesus is the way, the truth and the life! run to him and you will be saved.
