This past weekend my two boys came over to sleep in my room as their father had travelled, excited they were sleeping with mummy again, we even went to bed early. Hardly 10 minutes had gone before I realised they had already turned and were now sleeping @quarter past position and am like what did I get myself into really? You know the drill, put them back straight, to half past position, cover with blanket, switch off the lights and am back to sleep. Did I sleep properly? well no! because almost every other half hour I would have to wake up and check if they had uncovered themselves, if they were sleeping properly and to be honest it reached a point I decided, aaah you know what, I will not even switch off the lights, let them stay on so that I can watch over them. Its being a while since I slept with them in my room and I must admit I was so tired in the morning, I didn’t even sleep a wink! and worse still, my body ached from the kicks I had to endure throughout the night. I was their watchman, keeping vigil all night long to protect them from the cold and mosquitoes! Am not complaining….. but…. yeah, its parenting and I love it.

One of my favourite Psalms is chapter 91:1-2, its a reassuring Psalm. “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most high will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” It goes on and talks of how God will deliver us from the fowler’s snare and deadly pestilence, covering us with His feathers and under His wings we will find refuge. I don’t know about you, but I love imagining things, and this chapter is one that makes me wonder astray in imagination. Imagine God Himself covering you with His feathers, imagine being under His wings, not just anyone’s wings but the King of the universe. Being at peace that God’s Faithfulness will be your shield; we’ve all seen action/war movies where shields had to be used as a form of defence. Here, the Bible tells us that His Faithfulness is our shield, meaning this God does’t change, He’s the same yesterday, today and forever more.
This kind of assurance keeps me going and keeps me soldiering on knowing that my walk in God is not in vain, and He will reward me and all of us for enduring until the very end. Think about your life, is it inside God’s? are you covered by Him? Is His blanket over you? or are you exposed? cold, naked and afraid? You don’t have to be cold and exposed, come to Jesus, let Him cover you with His wings. Allow Him to be Lord and Saviour over your life and I guarantee you that your life will never be the same again!
The wachman watches but in vain. Its only the Lord who can surely watch over us. Its been a while. Always a pleasure reading your articles
