Covenant!!

My Pastor challenged us into doing a six months Bible reading marathon and I gladly accepted the challenge. Needless to say, that last year I didn’t finish with the rest, but this time I gotta finish to the very end and not just finish, but finish on time with everyone else! Was reading Genesis chapters 9-16 and I came across the covenant that God made with Noah after the flood, Genesis 9:11 “I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.” Then in verse 13 God confirms His covenant by setting a sign, the sign of a Rainbow. Genesis 9:13 “I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Verse 17 So God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth.”

Growing up, we always knew that the rainbow comes after raining to symbolise that the rains have stopped, but I personally nor did any of the children know that it symbolised a covenant? We just loved the colours of the rainbow, to us it looked like a beautiful hill which had many colours onto it. Therefore to read as a grown up and understand the meaning of the covenant that God placed those many years back, and which still appears to us in our generation for all to see and to the generations to come, goes to show just how Faithful God is.

What is a covenant? There are many definitions, but simply its an Oath, a contract, an agreement, a Pledge, a guarantee! When God makes a covenant, He’s simply saying, you have my Word! He doesn’t break it, He doesn’t go against it, but rather He keeps it for generations to come even after you. Different companies give contracts when they employ you, but haven’t we seen people being dismissed even while under contract? That is man, he will always find loopholes to go against a contract, but not God! After Noah, God also made a covenant with Abraham, to make him the father of many nations, he also promised to give him a son to be his heir.

What does God require of us? OBEDIENCE! All through the Bible we see that whenever God called someone and asked them to do something, they obeyed and through their obedience, a covenant was established. Ever asked yourself, “what if Noah disobeyed or doubted that there will be a flood? would we be here today? I don’t know the answer to that, but I thank God that there was a man like Noah who obeyed the voice of God, from his lineage we got Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph running all the way to King David and finally to Jesus Christ. Out of obedience, a new era of humanity was born.

Has God asked you to do something? Did you obey? or did you ignore? Has God spoken a Word over your life? has it come to pass? Or has it tarried? If it has tarried, have you given up on God? or are you still keeping your hopes alive? Jehovah God is the one and only true God and every Word spoken from His mouth, doesn’t come back to Him empty handed, it must accomplish that which it was intended to do, it has to accomplish its purpose. Therefore don’t loose hope in God, don’t give up on Him, but above all for the word to come to pass, you have to Obey the Lord. If it means moving, then by all means move! He knows why!
