Whenever you put your focus on something, there’s no doubt that you will commit to it and when you commit, it shows a level of maturity in oneself. The opposite is true, there’s usually a poignant sense of sadness and regret whenever we don’t focus or do what we had set out to do. I started a journey of reading my Bible and getting to know what it says, and to be honest its being an amazing journey of a deeper understanding of God’s Word. My prayer is that, we will all create time to read the Word, after all we do create time for what’s important in our lives, and I want to believe that God is at the centre of it all. That said, we close the book of Colossians with final instructions.
“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” Let me ask this question and I would want you to be truthful to yourself, do you pray? am not asking for those one minute prayers before you eat or before you go to bed! am talking about creating time to pray. I tend to think that as believers, we relax a lot especially when things are going right, we go on spiritual vacation, put our feet up, enjoying life with a big spoon, forgetting that we need to “be alert and of sober mind” why? because, “your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” When you have gone on spiritual vacation, he creeps in and strikes and that is why we should always be watchful, devoting ourselves in prayer and always having a thankful heart.
Not only should we just pray for ourselves, but we should also pray for other believers and the Body of Christ. Pray for the ministers of God’s word, who devote their time and energy to make sure that we are spiritually fed and nourished. Pray for the sick, give to the needy and pray that this gospel will be preached all over the world and more and more people will give their lives to Christ.
“Be wise in the way you act towards outsiders.” It is important that we are sensitive to each other and not say words that will hurt the other person. Be kind with your words, be kind in the way you treat other people and show love to everyone. “Make the most of every opportunity.” King Solomon writes this about life in Ecclesiastes 9:11, “The race is not to the swift, or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favour to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all.” What opportunities have come your way and have you utilised them? God opens for us doors and when He does, no one can shut them, however, sometimes we’re too blind to see the opportunities that God has placed in our lives. Lord may you open our eyes to see the opportunities that are surrounding us, and that we may make the most of them!
“Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” Ave said things that I didn’t want to say to people and yes I know I have hurt them with my words and Everyday I pray that God will help me to tame my tongue. The Holy Spirit reminds me, but then again I still fail time and time again and my words haven’t been as to how God would want them to be, however, everyday, I pick up my cross and follow Him, even when I fall again, He’s Faithful and Just. People say the most hurtful words to us, and because we get hurt, we fight back with words, not realising that we’re not solving the problem, but only making it worse than it was. Before you answer someone who has hurt you, remember you do not need to defend yourself, but allow God to fight for you.
It’s never easy to sit back and not do anything, however, always remember Psalms 46:1, 7 ”God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.”
Memory Verse Colossians 4:2 "Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful."
