The ‘Sixth’ Sense

Some call it ‘intuition’, others call it the ‘sixth sense’, and still others call it a ‘gut feeling’. Well ad like to call it “The Holy Spirit of God”. There is an inner voice that usually speaks to us, alerting us of danger or telling us not to do something. I think all human beings have had that kind of feeling, or warnings, sometimes we listen to the inner voice, other times we ignore it. Truth be told, whenever you have a ‘gut’ feeling about something or someone, it usually comes true. Your supposed to go somewhere, then all of a sudden you feel the urge not to go, later on you learn, that there was an accident on the road which you were to take and people perished, this was the Holy Spirit warning you! Or still you hear about someone who died, but the people around them say, they initially didn’t want to do what they just did, unfortunately they didn’t listen to the inner voice and so they met their death!

The Holy Spirit is the third persona in the Trinity. When Christ left us, He said He would send us a Helper, some Bible versions states ‘an advocate.’ When you have a help in your house what do they do? They basically make things easier for us around the house. Same case with an advocate, the advocate will act on your behalf, intercede on your behalf before the judge and represent you to the fullest. The Holy Spirit as an advocate, “He intercedes for us with groans too deep that words cannot express” read Romans 8:26 this is when we are speaking in tongues. As our Helper, He will teach us all things and remind us of everything that Christ said read John 14:26. Jesus left us with the Holy Spirit as a compensation for His absence. The Spirit gives us, love, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control, which without Him, the works of our flesh cannot produce such fruit!

We need the Holy Spirit in every area of our lives, to guide and help us in everything we do. We need the Spirit to grow in our spiritual lives, He feeds us and teaches us the things of God. Some of us don’t know what the work of the Holy Spirit is, Some of us don’t think they need Him, some of us have heard about Him, have seen what He does, but still ignore Him. Jesus tells us in Mark 3:29 “But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of an eternal sin”. What this means is this, you might not know about the Holy Spirit of God, but don’t insult, talk badly or blaspheme against the Holy Spirit, this will not be forgiven. Remember even in our country laws, we are told ‘ignorance is no defense’.

There is another group of people who have been given a special gift, the gift of discernment. The Holy Spirit gives the gift of discernment to enable Christians to clearly recognize and distinguish between the influence of God, Satan, the world and the flesh. Such people would know if it’s the Spirit of God speaking in you or not.  They can tell if your performing miracles in the name of Jesus Christ or by beelzebub.

If you have the gift of discernment, the Spirit shows you many things which should be beneficial to everyone in the body of Christ and not one self. Can you imagine if The Holy Spirit revealed some important information in which you were meant to share with people or someone and you kept it all to yourself? And the intended person dies or something happens to him, would you be able to live with yourself? Share the word with whoever it is intended for!.

There are still many functions and works of the Holy Spirit

Blessings!!
