Kids are very funny, and we can learn so much from them. So, my young one wakes up very early on a Sunday morning, goes to the kitchen, and takes on an Elastoplast, please note he has no injury whatsoever. He comes to my bed, and I hear some commotion – he was putting on the plasta onto himself. When I ask him what’s happening, he says nothing and laughs and so I let it slide because I didn’t know what was happening. As I wake up to make my bed and voila, I see the external wrappings on the plasta on the bed and that’s when I realized what had happened. When I asked him, he completely refused that it wasn’t him and am like, what in God’s green earth is this? Since when did children just lie and want to coverup things? I thought they were innocent. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 . And so that’s when I remembered that we are all sinners, and we need salvation. It also reminded me of the verse that Paul says, “the things I want to do, I don’t do and what I hate I do” my son clearly knew what he did was wrong, but he was afraid I would punish him, and instead of telling the truth he thought a lie would get him out of trouble. Aren’t we like that with God? We think that when we come to Him with our sins and baggage He will condemn and punish us.
Sin separates us not only from God, but also from our loved ones. I can think of many examples whereby I was in an altercation with friends and loved ones and because of our disagreements, friendship and love were lost in the process. Sin brings about fear, condemnation, judgement – it’s the gift that literally keeps giving evil everywhere it goes. The Bible is full of stories of men and women who sinned and went against God’s ways, but still God was gracious enough to forgive them, and through them He fulfilled His promises and purpose. Abraham is usually referred to as the father of ‘faith,’ yes, he believed God and it was counted to him as righteousness James 2:23. Yet Abraham is the same man who when the promised son was delayed, he agreed to his wife’s suggestion of producing a family through their servant Hagar. This was not God’s plan, but Abraham and Sarah still went ahead with it, a son was born, but he was not the promised one and it brought about conflict and disagreements. Our choices will always lead us to consequences which, we may not always like how it ends – Abraham had to send Hagar and Ishmael away.
Jacob was the twin brother of Esau and second born son to Isaac and Rebekah. Reading his story and you realize he was conniving and manipulative. He took advantage of his brother Esau and made him sell his birthright over a plate of red stew and he also didn’t disagree with his mother when she came up with a plan to deceive their father when he wanted to bless Esau – he rode along with it. Yet it is through his many sons that God establishes the 12 tribes of Israel and the promises He made to his grandfather Abraham. You see, God will use all the situations in your life, even the nastiest ones for good and your story will bring Glory and Honor unto His name.
What’s your story? I don’t know about you but, I sure have fallen short of His Glory one too many times. After I got pregnant out of wedlock, I didn’t step in church for a whole year – I knew God was done with me and I was done with Him too. The same child that I conceived, died three months after he was born and frankly speaking, I believed God was punishing me for the mistakes that I had done and let me tell you, I hated Him so much. I didn’t want to hear anything about a God who loves and forgives, if that’s the case why did He allow my son to die when he just turned 3 months? What sin did he commit? I am sure am not the only one who has felt this way about God. Wanting answers to life’s questions, situations and pain that leave us with more questions than answers. Well, I now know this, “ and we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them, Romans 8:28.” That failed marriage, that rebellious child, that sickness that doesn’t seem to go away, that pain that seems to be a constant reminder of your past, yes that thorn in your flesh God will turn it for good.
Tough situations do one thing in common – they bring us closer to God. We find ourselves praying more, we seek Him and His great counsel and guidance for our lives. That situation brought us closer to God and frankly speaking if you honestly check deep within yourself you realize that He taught you lessons that you couldn’t be taught in any other way. God sees the end from the beginning and sometimes He will stop us from going in a direction that He knows will cause damage to us. He will close that door or window of opportunity because He knows that it will crush you instead of building you. Joseph was shown a dream, but he was never shown the way to the dream. He was almost killed by his brothers, sold as a slave and when things started looking out in Potiphar’s house, he was accused of rape and thrown into prison staying there for 2 years if that is not a reason to cause one to be depressed and angry at God I don’t know what is. God elevated Joseph at just the right time, and he became 2nd in command in Egypt after Pharaoh. Still using Joseph, Jacob and his family went into Egypt and settled there and the prophecy that God gave Abraham about his descendants being enslaved in a foreign land, came to pass – Genesis 15:13.
You see, even in your life, God does know the end from the beginning, talk to Him, He listens. Though sometimes we may pray and want instantaneous answers or miracles and when they don’t come our way, we assume God hasn’t really heard us or wants nothing to do with us. God see’s, God hears. Yes, we are sinners who keep falling everyday but He still desires to have a relationship with us. He desires us to welcome Him into our hearts that He may dine with us and walk with journey with us. He will go to any length to get to you, that’s just how much He loves you. He’s asking you this one thing – lay down your burdens before Him, surrender your pain and allow Him to take charge in your life. Yes, there will be days it won’t make any sense, you will go from zero (0) to a hundred (100) but that’s what putting your trust in someone is all about? It’s accepting that in your own capacity, you cannot handle it, that is why you trust someone who is greater, superior and higher than you to handle you and all that entails about your life.
God is gracious, trust Him today, He’s got you covered!
God bless you!!
