Falsehood

If you want to get depressed quickly, watch the news! It doesn’t matter what country you’re watching from, it’s all depressing 99% of the times. There is so much falsehood being spewed all around us from the politicians, false prophets and social media which has become our modern-day demigod. Our world has changed a lot from what we knew it to be, and I guess different people from different walks of life, background and age will attest to the same thing. Technology, our belief system and environment are just but a few that have changed through the recent times.

False prophets have distorted the truth of The Gospel of Jesus Christ and the sad reality is that many have fallen into their traps. Jesus shows us a glimpse of the future in Matthew 24:4, “don’t let anyone mislead you, for many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah.’ They will deceive many.” Fact is people have died at the hands of ‘these’ false prophets and it’s all because for most of us, we are looking for miracles instead of the One who performs these miracles. We forget that it is God who gives us the gift to perform miracles and it is He whom we should give credit to. However, false prophets are now ‘cooking up’ miracles just to get more people to come to their churches.

We need to be spiritually alert and know what the Bible says, instead of waiting for other people to read and interpret it for us. “Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves.” Matthew 7:15. Another reason why we keep falling into the hands of ‘these false prophets,’ is because we don’t read the Bible for ourselves, we keep it safe in our drawers, only take it out on Sunday morning. If we spent more time reading God’s Word, then we would be able to discern the false doctrine and false prophets. Jesus reminds us “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me,” John 10:27 and in the Old Testament God speaks to prophet Hosea saying, “my people are destroyed from lack of language,” Hosea 4:6.Ask yourself this question, do you know God’s voice and are you following Him?

The enemy on the other hand has been busy creating new demigods that we won’t even suspect. He knows that you and I know the 10 commandments and idols is a no no, however, screen time on our phones has gotten us staring for many hours on end just scrolling through social media and looking what everyone has posted. I know some of you might be thinking, naaah you’ve got it all wrong this time. The second commandment states that, “thou shall not make unto thee any graven image (idol),” therefore an idol is anything or anyone that we put on a high pedestal in the place that we should put God. The reason that I say our mobile phones and social media have become like demigods is because we have stopped spending time with God and instead, we are spending more time with our phones. It is here that a lot of propaganda and false information of how our true identity should be is being spread.

David writes in Psalms 4:2 “how long, O you sons of men will you turn my glory to shame? How long will you love worthlessness and seek falsehood?” God created human beings for His own glory but today, human beings are telling God, ‘You were wrong in creating me this way, I believe I am supposed to be this.’ Isaiah 45:9 “what sorrow awaits those who argue with their Creator. Does a clay pot argue with its maker? Does the clay dispute with the one who shapes it, saying, ‘stop, you’re doing it wrong!’ Does the pot exclaim, ‘how clumsy can you be?’ The enemy is busy spreading falsehood by distorting the truth of your identity and we are so blinded in our own pride that we cannot see! Your identity comes from God, He is the Creator of the universe and you and I didn’t just appear, we were created. “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well,” Psalm 139:13-14

With so much falsehood going on, we are called to be, ‘the light of the world, Matthew 5:14 – like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. When darkness comes in, God’s light is the only thing bright enough to take away the darkness. The light of The King of Kings shines bright inside you, it cannot and should not be dimmed. 5:15-16 “No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.” In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your Heavenly Father.” However, because the enemy cannot dim the light inside of you, he is keeping you busy with things that don’t matter – social media. Soon you start to realise, you don’t pray as much as you did before, you don’t even read the Bible and slowly by slowly you start to conform to the patterns of the world and make excuses or justify for your actions, all so that you can ‘fit in.’

God didn’t save you out of sin so that you can continue sinning, Paul reminds us of this in Romans 6:1-2 “well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of His wonderful grace? Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it?” As believers and followers of Christ we are called to emulate (imitate) Him. This will cause us to be intentional with our walk and relationship with Christ, which means giving Him our struggles so that He can help us conquer them through the power of the Holy Spirit within us.

God’s plan for mankind is salvation through His Son Jesus Christ. As you have received this great salvation, you should not keep it to yourself, but spread the love of God with everyone around you. Can you imagine if the Apostles didn’t carry out the great commission? How would you have heard about the gospel? In a world full of falsehood, not only should be the light of the world, but speak the truth of Christ in love.

“For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light,” Ephesians 5:8.

Blessings!!
