Nature

Sipping a cup of hot green tea and mint as I gaze outside the window. The trees minding their own business with the branches moving softly to the breeze of the early morning wind. Nature is beautiful and gazing at it can be very therapeutic. It’s interesting to see grass and all sorts of plantations growing even where they are not cultivated – the ground (soil) has enough nutrients to support the life of all these plants.

We can learn so much from nature. When it’s raining, every living thing benefits from the rains, the grass, trees, flowers, and all animals.  The plantations will grow and get its nourishment from the ground while the animals benefit from eating the grass and drinking water. The animals that don’t eat grass still benefit from the grass that the herbivores ate while we human beings also benefit from the meat and milk that we get from these animals. It’s the circle of life really, we all benefit from each other one way or another.

But what happens to the grass when there’s no rain? It feeds off from the supply it had in the ground and when it’s depleted and seems dry and brownish yellow in colour due to the lack of rains, it withers, but stays firmly connected to the ground which is its source. Unless its uprooted, it will continue to stay dry until the next season of rains come and nourishes the ground with water, soon the grass and all plants will flourish yet again. The ground is its source of life.

We too like grass need to connect to our ground for us to get all the nourishments that we need, that source is none other than God. After God created everything, He said, “let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth and the small animals that scurry along the ground,” Genesis 1:26. We are made in the image and likeness of God Himself, which means human beings are special in God’s eyes.  The first Adam is given instructions on the dos and don’ts of the garden of Eden – everything he was allowed to eat except the ‘fruit of the knowledge of good and evil.’ It was picture perfect, Adam was connected to his source of life and Genesis 1 & 2 gives us a glimpse of it all. Along came the devil with his cunningness and lies planting thoughts of “did God really say this or that?” and with that the first man and woman fell into sin and as we know the rest is history.

How do we get connected back to our source? Jesus Christ, He is our Saviour. However, it’s good to note that even when we are connected to our source, we will experience dry seasons. These are times we go through a type of loss, sickness, hardships, suffering and every other bitter pill that life throws at us. Some of us will soldier on and stay firmly rooted in our source even if it means we may look withered or depleted in nutrients, our roots are still firmly buried in our source. For the rest of us, the pain of hardship will be too much to carry, and we take the easy way out, we abandon our ship, boycott, and let go of our source thinking that the grass is greener on the other side.

The difference between those who hold on to the source and those who don’t is this. Those who are still connected to God as their source, even when the storms come, they continue to hold onto the promises that God has promised for His children. What this does is this, His strength takes over for it is made perfect in our weakness. In the dry seasons, God becomes our source of strength, and we continue to drink of His endless supply through His Word. We may look depleted, dry, malnourished to the world but we are still connected to our source. Which means our roots are still deeply rooted and soon a time will come when the storm ceases and the gentle rain of blessings will shower us, and we will smile again.

But even if the rains don’t come back for sometimes, our connection to the source of life is still with us, deeply rooted to the core of our lives. Yes, our grass may never be green for some time, but it’s not been cut off from its source who gives us LIFE!

The deeper your roots, the deeper your connection. Life will not always give you apples, lemons will come. Don’t chicken out and let go, stay connected to God your source of life, He promises eternity on the other side of life. Choose Him, choose life.

Blessings!!
